Cleveland Wins First Playoff Series Without LeBron James in 31 Years!

Donovan Mitchell Shines, Leads Cavs to Victory Over Magic

The Cleveland Cavaliers are celebrating! They defeated the Orlando Magic 106-94 in a thrilling Game 7 to win their first-round playoff series. This victory is especially significant because it's the first time Cleveland has won a playoff series without LeBron James since 1993.

Mitchell Takes Over

Donovan Mitchell, often seen as LeBron's successor in Cleveland, was the star of the show. After scoring 50 points in a losing effort in Game 6, Mitchell wasn't going to be denied in Game 7. He exploded for 39 points, with a whopping 24 of those points coming in the second half. The crowd erupted with loud "MVP" chants as Mitchell dominated.

Mitchell Downplays His Heroics

Despite his amazing performance, Mitchell remained humble. He acknowledged the importance of the win for Cleveland's history but emphasized that the team's goal is much bigger than just winning the first round. Next up for the Cavs is a tough matchup against the top-seeded Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Comeback Kids

The Cavs' victory was even more impressive because they were down by as many as 18 points in the first half! This comeback was the largest in a Game 7 since at least 1998. Cleveland's defense tightened up in the second half, forcing Orlando into tough shots and preventing them from scoring easily.

Young Magic Star Emerges

While the Cavs celebrated, the Orlando Magic shouldn't hang their heads in defeat. Their young star, Paolo Banchero, had an outstanding series, averaging 27 points and 8.6 rebounds. At just 21 years old, he became the youngest player to score 30+ points in three games of a playoff series.

Team Effort Propels Cavs

While Mitchell was the clear leader, the Cavs received valuable contributions from other players. Max Strus hit three crucial three-pointers in the pivotal third quarter. Caris LeVert, who struggled in Game 6, bounced back with 15 points. Evan Mobley anchored the defense with 11 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

Looking Ahead

The win is a huge boost for Cleveland, but there are still challenges ahead. Center Jarrett Allen, who was averaging a double-double before an injury, is questionable for Game 1 against the Celtics. The Cavs will need everyone healthy and at their best to overcome the tough competition in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
